This costume has been oddly enjoyable to make, not to mention making me feel like I'm 5 again. When I was little I refused to use chap stick unless it was Strawberry Shortcake... I loved the smell.
Costume construction notes on all three costumes
Raspberry Tart:
This costume is a modified simplicity pattern (4015 Misses Costumes) and I drafted the pattern for my hat and crinoline myself.
The dress is a light pink 100% cotton linen, I love working with linen it has a great weight to it and its so comfortable and breathable to wear. The sleeves are made from a pink cotton gingham. The design on the bottom of the dress is hand embroidered.
The crinoline under the dress is also made by me, out of white crinoline of course. The bloomers are made from a pink cotton mystery fabric that I found amongst my fabric, I have no clue what I got it for so I made bloomers with it.
The Hat is made from the same pink linen as the dress, I went with a beret style hat since it looked more visually correct than the bonnet style hat I had originally drafted. The lines are hand embroidered as decorative detail. The raspberry on the top of the hat is hand beaded and the leafs are taken from fake flowers I had laying around. The green stripes are done in fabric paint and then satin stitched to the hat, which also helps in keeping the shape of the hat up and puffy.
The shoes are white mary jane flats that I painted to match, the paint colour was wild raspberry... how perfect. The wig is a Marilyn 250 in Light Pink from Cosworx
Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak:
The Purple Pieman is a fairly simple costume and from what I head from my boyfriend very comfortable to wear. The shirt is made from a blue nylon spandex using a simple tee shirt pattern of my own creation, I made a little longer than normal to compensate for my boyfriends general height and the fact that you need a bit more coverage when your wearing leggings with it.
The Piemans pants are made from a navy blue stretch cotton knit with separate boot covers which create the appearance of legging shoe pant things... is there a proper name for them? The boot covers even have the adorable pointed 'elf' toe. The bottom of the boot covers have non-slip pads which spell out PIE MAN on the bottom of each foot.
The chefs hat is made from purple cotton twill and then hand painted checkers along the base in navy and light blue. The hat is a pattern of my own design. The apron is made from white broadcloth and the simplest thing ever to make. There are a pair of measuring spoons on his hip, they are from the dollar store, hellz yeah!
I hate hate hate hate the wig, I salvaged this wig from a Kakashi costume done by Jeff long ago. It wig was not in good shape at all but after some tend love and care and some annoying cutting and styling its passable. The mustache is a false mustache... he can only wish that baby was real.
Blueberry Muffin:
This costume is a modified simplicity pattern (4015 Misses Costumes) and I drafted the pattern for my hat and overdress myself.
The under-dress is made from a blue cotton gingham lined in a navy blue mystery cotton from my fabric bin. The gingham was to light on its own so lining it added the appropriate structure for the dress. The over dress or day dress is made from a blue cotton twill, it closes with three bows at the back for that extra adorable touch. The neckline of the day dress is machine embroidered with a decorative criss cross stitch and a decorative blue satin bow.
The hat is a pattern of my own which is frankly some form of oversized top hat with a floppy brim. There are button holes with blue ribbon laced through as a decorative detail as well as a removable blueberry pin with hand painted blueberry beads and green leafs.
The wig is a yarn 'corpse bride' wig which I've cut and styled into pigtails with handmade bow hair ties. Her shoes are a China Town find of knock-off crocs.
